Sometimes the right fishing trip is a quiet day on a lake. Pokhara has Nepal's best lake fishing — Phewa Lake (the city's main lake, with the Tal Barahi temple in the middle) and Begnas Lake (10 miles outside town, quieter, more solitary). Both hold a serious mix of fish: Mahseer, common carp, catfish, Sahar, and Asala. Both have traditional wooden boats for hire. And both offer the kind of scenery — Annapurna and Machapuchare in the distance — that's hard to match anywhere else in the world.

It's a single day, easy to book, and adds a different texture to a Pokhara visit. The fishing is calmer than river fishing — slower-paced, more meditative, more conducive to conversation with the boatman. Catch rates are decent year-round (lake fishing isn't shut down by monsoon), and the species mix is genuinely diverse.

Morning is the prime fishing window — fish are most active. Lunch by the lake. Afternoon session focuses on quieter waters as the day warms. Return to your hotel before sunset. Optional: stay for sunset photos with Machapuchare reflected in the water.
