Fly Kathmandu to Nepalgunj (1 hr), then drive 5–6 hours to Mehalkuna in Surkhet district. Trip briefing, gear check, evening fishing at nearby pools.
Bheri River Wilderness Float
A quiet alternative to the Karnali — born in Dolpo, flowing through the Chure Hills to the Karnali confluence, with some of Nepal's most productive Mahseer pools and easier rafting.

About the Bheri trip
The Bheri is the western river that anglers in the know choose when they want strong fishing without the whitewater intensity of the Karnali. The river starts in the Dolpo region of Nepal — one of the most remote districts in the country — and flows west and south, cutting through the Chure (Siwalik) Hills before joining the Karnali above Bardia National Park. The water is famously clear, the riverbed is sandy, and the pools are deep.
The trip starts with a flight to Nepalgunj and a drive up to Mehalkuna or Samjhighat, depending on flows. From there it's eight days of mostly Class II–III rafting with frequent fishing stops at known holds. The fishing is the focus — most days have multiple sessions, and the highlight is the Bheri–Karnali Confluence, which has historically produced some of the largest Mahseer caught on guided trips in Nepal.
The Bheri is recommended for anglers who fished the Karnali or Seti–Karnali in past seasons and want a different style of trip — lower energy, more time at each pool, more scenic. It also suits first-time anglers who want serious fishing water without committing to a 10-day expedition. The take-out at Chisapani is the same as the Karnali expedition, so a Bardia safari extension is straightforward.

Questions about the Bheri Wilderness
The Bheri has gentler whitewater (Class II–III vs III–V on the Karnali), longer fishing time per day, and a more relaxed pace overall. The fishing at the Bheri–Karnali Confluence is comparable to the Karnali's prime spots, but the river itself is easier. Ideal for first-time multi-day anglers, or returning guests who want a different experience.
